Theresa's Personal Mission Statement
"It is my goal to provide non-disruptive, cost-effective and value-added service to all my clients, especially the numerous public sector entities with whom I work. Unlike the traditional tic and tie auditors, I believe in giving our clients valuable management guidance that can help them improve their operations and financial management systems."
Theresa joined Lewis, Hooper & Dick, LLC in 1987. In her role as a member and owner in the firm, Theresa serves a variety of industries, primarily focusing on governmental and not-for-profit organizations. Specifically, she oversees audits, assists in the development of organizational budgets and provides management guidance to her public sector clients.
In addition to Theresa's client service responsibilities, she plays a significant role in the creation and implementation of Lewis, Hooper & Dick's practice development initiatives. As a member of the Governmental Accounting and Auditing Committee, her responsibilities include scheduling and supervision, budgeting, and staff training. Theresa also plays an active role in maintaining the firm's quality control standards as related to attestation services.
Prior to joining Lewis, Hooper & Dick, Theresa worked as a staff accountant, assisting with tax and audit services at two local firms, KMG Main Hurdman and Smoll, Banning and Rabe, PA. With over 22 years of experience in accounting, she has gained the admiration of colleagues and peers within the industry.
Theresa prides herself on her role as a problem solver for her clients. In working with local governments, she has assisted in the evaluation of reserves to meet current and future needs, determining the feasibility of capital projects and enabling her clients to begin construction projects with minimum bonding. Theresa has also helped a city government with the preparation of its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for which a Certificate of Achievement was received in the initial and subsequent years.
Theresa is a well respected accounting authority within the industry. She has been invited by the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants (KSCPA) to provide updates on the Kansas Municipal Audit Guide at the annual Governmental and Not-for-Profit Accounting and Auditing Conference. Theresa has also presented, "Fraud and Internal Controls," for the Southwest Chapter of City Clerks Association.
Theresa grew up on a farm near Dodge City, Kansas, and currently resides in Garden City with her family. Outside of the office, she enjoys cooking, working around the house and yard, and spending time with her husband at their ranch.
