Lewis, Hooper & Dick, LLC Announces Member Retirement
It is with personal regret but warm wishes that we announce the retirement of longtime member/owner Gary Schlappe, CPA, CGMA. Gary will complete his career in public accounting on December 31, 2017.
“Throughout his 40 years of service, Gary made a positive impact on our firm, the Garden City community, the state of Kansas and the world of accounting,” said Theresa Dasenbrock, CPA, CFE, CGMA, Managing Member/Owner of Lewis, Hooper & Dick, LLC. “We will forever be grateful for his role in helping Lewis, Hooper & Dick, LLC become the firm it is today.”
Gary joined Lewis, Hooper & Dick, LLC on June 9, 1980. He served as a member/owner for 31 years. During his 37-year career at the firm, he developed specialties in the medical services area and in government audits where he worked with an array of public sector clients, including local governments and school districts. Among his many successes as an auditor, Gary helped to renew public confidence in the management of a school district by designing and implementing departmental operation reviews and went on to assist the State of Kansas with developing a similar program for school districts. In addition to audits, Gary provided comprehensive accounting, budgeting, consulting and income tax services for a variety of industries. Throughout his career, he successfully helped many clients with tax planning and management consulting.
Prior to joining Lewis, Hooper & Dick, LLC, Gary worked at Fox & Company in Denver, Colorado where he assisted with individual and business tax planning, financial statement preparation and payroll training. He also gained valuable audit experience while providing trust fund audits for financial institutions. Over the years, Gary served as a member of the AICPA, KSCPA, KSCPA Foundation, Garden City Rotary, Leadership Kansas, Leadership Garden City (founding board member), and the Kansas Foundation for Excellence in Education. He also served on the board of the KSCPA and was board president. Gary believes his success is attributed to the opportunity to work with many talented professionals and the support of his family.
We would like to thank Gary for his commitment to the firm and his clients, and for his leadership as a managing member/owner for 17 of those years. He will be dearly missed.
